Just like Toyota produces high end models through their Lexus nametag, Honda does the same via their Acura subsidiary. The Acura RLX is a premium sedan which is pretty impressive in the market. The model seems to get better with each release.
The new 2017 Acura RLX model will feature mild changes on its exterior profile and interior styling. However, people criticized the outgoing model’s engine prompting Honda to equip the upcoming Acura RLX with a hybrid engine. Except for the engine changes, the vehicle only features cosmetic changes and nothing significant compared to the predecessor model.
2017 Acura RLX Exterior
The exterior profile will remain unchanged from the previous model except for a few tweaks. The vehicle has a low sideline but with a high ground clearance level of 2.4 inches. Its chassis has been made with lightweight materials which have significantly reduced its curb weight.
Both the front and rear bumpers will be redesigned to give the model a more elegant look. The grille will also be redesigned and will feature a chrome finish and the Acura logo at the center. The air vents and fog lights will also be redesigned. The front and rear fascias will have a dose of chrome detailing which also extends around the windows.
Both the headlights and taillights feature LED lighting technology. The four door sedan will ride on 18-inch wheels with an option for 20-inch wheels.
2017 Acura RLX Interior
Since this is a mid-cycle refresh, the model will only feature subtle changes. The cabin will be equipped with premium features common with similar premium quality sedans. To conform to these standards, even the base model will be well equipped with premium features to rival competitors. The cabin will be spacious and will comfortably accommodate five passengers with sufficient leg room. The 2017 Acura RLX sedan also has a large cargo space.
The seats are upholstered in leatherette and will have heated front seats. Other standard equipment includes an 8.8-inch touch-screen display, a navigation system, a three-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and a moon roof.
For entertainment, the RLX features a premium 10-speaker sound system with satellite radio and HD radio, and an upgraded infotainment system. Connectivity features like Bluetooth, USB ports, Smartphone integration and Wi-Fi connectivity will also be offered as standard.
On matters safety, the Acura RLX is equipped with a rear view camera, a blind spot monitoring system, a forward collision alert system, lane departure warning, stability control, traction control and ABS. For more buyers can opt for the Advance Package, Technology package or the Navigation Package. The three packages have earned the Acura the nickname “the Technology car”.
Engine Specs and Performance
Under the hood, the 2017 Acura RLX will have two drive-trains, a conventional engine and a hybrid one. Standard models will feature a 3.5 L, V-6 unit which comes good with 310 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to all wheels via the automaker’s Precision AWD system.
The second engine is a hybrid unit which comprises the similar 3.5 L, V-6 engine with an electric motor. The motor adds 47 hp and when combined with the petrol engine, the drive-train produces 380 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque.
The base model has an estimated fuel economy of 20 mpg in city and 24 mpg on highway drives while the hybrid version returns 28 mpg on city and 30 mpg on highway drives.
Price and release date
Acura is yet to release official information regarding the 2017 Acura RLX price or scheduled release date. However, according to rumors, the model will be released in late 2016.
Prices are expected to vary slightly and will more or less fall in the current model’s price range. As such, the base model will have a starting price of around $ 51,000 MSRP while hybrid models will start at around $ 60,000.
