2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante

Aston Martin is one happy automaker,  just months after debuting the Zagato Volante Coupe which sold out almost immediately the automaker started receiving orders, the automaker is set to release a drop-top version of the coupe to take advantage of the overwhelming demand. Aston Martin unveiled the 2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante at the recent Pebble Beach Concour’s d’Elegance, a motoring event slowly turning to an international auto show for luxury automakers. Like the coupe, Aston Martin has already announced that only 99 units will be produced for the convertible.

What’s more, the automaker said that the model is specifically targeted for the North American market.  Further, the model continues the awesome relationship between Aston Martin and the Italian exotic car design house, Zagato, a relationship that started in the late ‘50s. Like the coupe, the cabriolet is a masterpiece that adds all the headroom in the world to an already fabulous model. Read along to find out more:

2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante Exterior

Except for the retractable roof, the Vanquish Zagato looks identical to its coupe sister. Its exterior body is made of carbon-fiber.  The model retains all the stylish designs that made the coupe enticing to enthusiasts and critics alike. At the front, the convertible features the same gigantic grille flanked by LED DRLs at each corner.

A big splitter lies underneath the grille while an aggressive engine hood completes the excellent front fascia styling.  On the flanks, you will still find the One-70 inspired side mirrors, sculpted side skirts and a fender strake, features that are identical to the coupe.

The exterior retains Vulcan-inspired round LED headlights, a retractable spoiler and quad-exhaust tips which are integrated into a very sporty diffuser.

2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante Interior

On the inside, the Zagato cabin looks almost identical to that of the standard Vanquish Volante. However, the cabin features more lavish and premium materials that are not available on the base models.  Sliding inside, one immediately notices the carbon fiber with an anodized bronze finish on the center stack.

The seats on the other hand are wrapped in aniline leather and also feature a custom ‘Z’ quilt stitching pattern, a pattern also featured on the door panels which as you would expect are also wrapped in aniline leather. The ‘Z’ motif is also featured on the headrests. The ‘Z’ denotes the name ‘Zagato’.  The ‘Z’ is actually the major difference between the coupe and the convertible, as the coupe does not feature the ‘Z’ motif.

The other major difference is the obvious open top that avails all the headroom in the world. However, when the weather forces you to remain tucked inside, the automaker has added a bespoke folding roof which is tucked inside the cargo compartment. The retractable roof has been modified to augur well with the modified trunk lid and to match the car’s elegant exterior.

Engine Specs and performance

Under the hood, the Vanquish Zagato Volante is powered by the same engine that powers the coupe version. The mill is a naturally aspirated 5.9 L, V-12 engine which produces 591 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque which is 24 hp more than the base Aston Martin Vanquish.

The additional power enables the model to accelerate to 60 mph from standstill in 3.7 seconds. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission system just like the coupe.

Price and release date

Well, if your “pockets” are deep enough, you better hurry and make your order as soon as possible as Aston Martin will only manufacture 99 units. Thing is, the cabriolet may have already sold out if the demand for the coupe is anything to go by. Aston Martin has not released details about the model’s price.

However, according to rumors, a starting price of around $500,000 is likely which could rise to over $800,000 with extras.
