Exterior of 2016 BMW 3 Series

2016 BMW 3 series received a new facelift. Both bumpers were redesigned and brought visually closer to the 4-series. The Sport Line aesthetic treatment is now standard on all models except 320i.

The headlamps were made sharper-looking with more angular contour, thus made available as full LEDs. The LED tail lamps were reshaped and equipped with new innards as well, but the difference is not that striking.

The optional Premium package for the 328i and 328d now, apart from Comfort Access, satellite radio, and a sunroof, includes the LED headlamps. This package is standard on 6-cylinder cars.

BMW 3 Series 2016 Interior

Interior-wise, 2016 BMW 3 series almost remains untouched. However, there was a few small updates: the manufacturer used new materials followed by more chrome and gloss-black trim, which were supposed to make the vehicle look richer. Brown leather is not part of the exclusive, luxury features.

Engine and Specs

BMW 3 series 2016 underwent the biggest changes in the powertrain sector.

The manufacturer made some changes on the chassis, producing improved dynamic capacities. The vehicle comes with the new front struts, redesigned rear dampers and retuned power steering. These are applied to all suspension setups – standard, M Sport and Adaptive M.

As for the engine, the N20 turbocharged 4-cylinder remains in 320i and 328i. However, the B58 comes in place of the N55. The new turbo 6, 3.0-liter belongs to BMW engine family, which can serve in 3-, 4- and 6-cylinder applications.

The new turbo 6 is followed by a new model design – 340i. It puts out 320 horsepower at 6500 rpm, with torque of 330 pound-feet, arriving at 1380 rpm. It is claimed that the 340i accelerates 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds with rear-wheel drive and 4.6 seconds with xDrive.

All engines are offered with rear- or all-wheel drive. All gasoline engines are offered with a revised 8-speed automatic or the 6-speed manual, now including a rev-matching function. But only the 340i can combine xDrive with the stick.

Next year, BMW is going to add a plug-in hybrid – 330e, which will be using a 4-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor. It is expected to deliver 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, and accelerating 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds.
