Engine, Specs and Performance

Intentionally did not spend a lot of words in description of exteriors that can see in the pictures, we give special emphasis to engines, which are the main asset of every BMW. The 5-series is set to feature an array of engines which will include a three gasoline engines, a turbodiesel and a hybrid one.

The base trim (528i) will be hooked with a 2.0 L 4-cylinder powertrain that will produce 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine will be mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission system. It will have a fuel economy of 23mpg for city and 34 mpg on the highway.

The mid trim (535i) will have a turbocharged straight–six engine which will produce 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. It will deliver 21 mpg for city and 31 mpg on the highway and will move the car from 0-60 mph in a whopping 5.7 seconds. It will be hooked with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an optional 6-speed manual transmission which will lower fuel mileage to 19 and 29mpg for city and highway respectively.

If you think the above are powerful, well not compared to the 550i trim which will feature a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 engine fitted with BMW’s Valvetronic variable valve timing and lift system. This engine will be paired with either 8-speed automatic system or a 6-speed manual system. It produces a whopping 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque that sends it from 0-60mph in only 5 seconds. In terms of fuel economy, this engine will deliver 15 mpg for city and 22 mpg on highway with a manual transmission and 17 mpg and 25 mpg with an automatic unit.

The 535d model will be equipped with a 3.0 L diesel twin-turbocharged inline-six that produces 255 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. It is offered in RWD and is mated with a 8-speed automatic transmission. All trims will be equipped with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system on optional basis and at an extra cost.

There will also be a hybrid engine i.e. BMW’s ActiveHybrid engine which will produce 335 hp with a fuel economy of 23 mpg and 30 mpg for city and highway drives. It will have an acceleration of 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds.
