Since its maiden debut in 2004, BMW X3 has been a popular crossover SUV for everyday life. This is attributed to the car’s excellent combination of versatility, luxury, and efficiency. The 2017 BMW X3 will feature a full redesign despite the car getting some improvements for the 2015 model year. The 2015 improvements were just subtle but the upcoming model is set to undergo through a more extensive redesign.
Under the hood is where things get more exciting as the model will get more juice. An XM model christened the X3M40i with over 340 hp joins the current lineup. This is not an official M-car though. Sources close to the automaker intimate that a fully fledged X3 M will follow later on to join its big sisters the X5M and X6M.
We will review the full-fledged X3M in a separate review. We understand that a plug-in hybrid version is also in the works. All these will make an already excellent vehicle superb. It will take great efforts for rival models to unseat the BMW X3 from the top of this segment.
2017 BMW X3 Exterior
The 2017 BMW X3 is based on the CLAR platform. To be called a Bimmer”, a model has to flaunt the kidney grille, so the X3 will normally have this signature grille. The headlights are almost similar to the ones on the current models, only their halos has been changed to look like letter C as opposed to the current ones broken look. The DRLs strip is placed below the bulbs; it runs from the outside corner to the lower inboard point. Fog lights are carried over from the outgoing models. Corner vents are shorter and feature body-colored inserts at the top.
On the flanks, the automaker has altered its body lines. The upper body line now runs straight from the fender back instead of curving down at the front wheel arch. The line is also sharper and more defined. The other line below the doors takes a mirrored look. It also pops out from the body in a 3D manner. Cladding on the doors is unchanged. The X3 is likely to ride on dual-five spoke wheels.
The spy shots in our possession didn’t reveal much about its rear. However, we can tell a slight difference with the current model. The slight differences will include toned down body lines on the rear hatch and a small lip protruding from the bottom of the rear window. The vehicle will also feature dual exhausts. At the top, the roof features a moon-roof.
2017 BMW X3 Interior
As of this writing, BMW was still holding details of the X3 interior styling close to its chest. However, we expect the model to have an elevated instrument cluster like the current model. From the looks of the A-pillars, a petite speaker could fit about halfway up.
The infotainment screen is likely to be of the same size as that of the current model. As said earlier, the model will be based on the CLAR platform. This will allow plenty of passenger and cargo space. Leather will be the standard upholstery material. The cabin will fit five passengers and the rear seat will have a 60/40 split-folding capability to extended cargo capacity on demand. Check back later for more updates on this Bimmer’s interior styling.
Engine Specs and Performance
BMW has not yet disclosed the X3 engine details. However, we don’t expect the automaker to move away from the current lineup. We expect the model to retain the current lineup that includes petrol and diesel engines.
The current X3 features a turbocharged 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine which produces 240 hp. There is also a turbocharged 3.0 L mill which is good for 300 hp. The diesel engine is a turbocharged 3.0 L4-cylinder capable of producing 180 hp.
The powerful petrol engine with 300 hp should launch the new BMW X3 2017 from 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds, which is an excellent result for the SUV. Maximum speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).
BMW could also decide to offer a new engine probably even an hybrid drive-train. Keep it here for the latest news on this model.
Prices of the new BMW X3 2017 are also a mystery as f this writing. However, since there are no major changes, the price won’t change much from that of the current models. The current model has a starting price of $ 38,950. The diesel model starts at $42,450. The top-of-the-range X3 with a 3.0 L petrol engine costs as much as $ 46,800. Expect a price increase not exceeding $ 1,000.
We’ll inform you of the official 2017 BMW X3 prices once the automaker avails more information.
