The 2016 Buick Avenir Concept seems to be the greatest surprise of this year’s North American International Auto Show. This luxury car, designed by an Australian design studio, in terms of elegance and luxury stands as a role-model all future models should look up to.
It looks like the 2016 Buick Avenir exterior has received a bit uncommon but at the same time futuristic look. The designers have directed their work in such way that it meets and combines the tastes of the customers from Australia and China, since Buick vehicles are mostly sold on these two markets. However, the Buick company wishes to take over the European market and become an actual global brand.
The exterior panels along with the aluminum inserts have all been hand-made, which is not so common. The panels blend together and all the lines flow uninterrupted.
As for the material used, every bit is either aluminum- or glass-made, which means there are no plastic lights or bumpers. The tail lamps are accompanied by aluminum mirrors, whereas the glass is scratch and shatter proof.
The interior features and design should match the exterior.
The expectations in terms of infotainment are pretty high. The enthusiasts are awaiting some hi-tech wonders such as wide infotainment screen no smaller than 7”, top safety features.
As for the comfort, elegant leather- and suede-upholstered seats in the higher trim levels are expected in the least. Perhaps even heated and ventilated front seats. What is known for sure is that the New Buick Avenir will offer 4 seats.
Engine and performance
According to some speculations, the reason there still isn’t much talk of the engine is that GM doesn’t actually have an engine to power this kind of vehicle. The adequate engine is probably yet to be developed, because it will most likely be a hybrid powertrain that would be able to offer the proper smoothness for such luxury car.
It might be a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 mated with a pair of electric motors and a set of batteries for a total power of higher than 500 hp and 550 pound-feet of torque. In case this was THE engine, it should be accompanied by a 9-speed automatic and a rear-wheel drive transmission.
As for the performance, it’s estimated that the vehicle should accelerate 0-60 mph in cc. 6.5 s, with the top speed 155 mph.
Price and release date
The manufacturer remains silent on the actual release date, but rumor has it that the 2016 Buick Avenir will hit the market by the spring of 2016. The prototype version might appear on 2015 La Auto Show. The price is yet to be revealed, but according to some calculations it shouldn’t go under $60,000.
