2017 Chevrolet Trax Exterior

The outgoing Trax exterior has been highly criticized which has forced Chevrolet to effect some changes. The redesign has also helped align the Trax design with Chevrolet’s global design language.

The 2017 Chevrolet Trax will be offered in three trims which are the LS, LT and the Premier trim which has replaced the LTZ as the top trim. The new look features a new dual-port grille and a redesigned bumper.  The headlights have also been redesigned and flow around the corners as well as into the front fenders. This makes the Trax’s front fascia look similar to that of the 2016 Malibu, Cruze and the Volt.

The front bumper is integrated with fog lights and air intakes. The fog lights have a chrome bezel around them. LS models get halogen reflector headlights while the LT and Premier Trims add LED lighting.

At the rear, the new Trax features a revised bumper and dual-taillights which have been modified and hooked up with LED lighting.

The Trax will run on 18-inch aluminum wheels with an option for alloy wheels complement its new appearance.

2017 Chevrolet Trax Interior

The interior has also been enhanced starting with the new dashboard which features an upper dashboard surface that flows across the panel uninterrupted enhancing its spaciousness. Chevrolet says this design helps interpret more expressively their signature dual-cockpit design.

The instruments panel features a new 7.0-inch MyLink touch-screen. The infotainment system integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which allow access to various apps. Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports and auxiliary audio inputs are also available. The panel is also treated to a Galvano chrome trim which is also featured on the console. This gives the subcompact CUV a more premium ambience. The Premier trim features a contrasting-color instruments panel which is matched with its leatherette seat upholstery (base models are upholstered in a quality cloth).

The motorcycle-inspired instrumentation on the outgoing models has been replaced with a new gauge display which features a prominent analog speedometer and tachometer readouts with digital displays. Other features include a Keyless Open and Start which allow drivers to lock or unlock the vehicle as well as start the engine without using a key.

The small crossover which appears to be more of a tall hatchback accommodates five passengers. The rear passengers will find the rear sitting space constrained.  The seat can however be split 60-/40 and folded flat to expand its cargo capacity from 18.7 cubic feet to 48.4 cubic feet. The front passenger seat can also fold flat to accommodate long items.

On matters safety, depending on the trim level, the Trax will feature a rear cross traffic alert, forward collision alert, side blind-zone alert, lane departure warning and a rearview camera.  Traction and stability control as well as 10 airbags are offered as standard across all trims.

Overall, the automaker argues that buyers will notice the steps made by to hook up the Trax with a cabin that offers a rich and premium feel.

Engine Specs and Performance

Under the hood, Chevrolet has retained the same engine that drives the outgoing Trax. The unit is a turbocharged 1.4 L 4-cylinder unit which comes good with 138 hp @ 4900 rpm and 148 lb-ft of torque @ 1850 rpm.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission system that channels power to the front wheels as standard. However, buyers have an option for all-wheel drive.  The engine is EPA rated to return 29 mpg on combined drives for FWD models and 27 mpg combined for AWD models.
