2016 Hyundai Santa Cruz Concept, Review, Specs

New Hyundai’s concept had its premiere at the New York auto show, the long awaited pickup truck called “Santa Cruz crossover truck concept”. According to the manufacturer, the 2016 Hyundai Santa Cruz is capable of achieving 30 mpg on the highway and is supposed to have a similar footprint to a compact crossover.

They also claim that the concept designers went for kind of a combo look of the crossover and sedan, so it could meet the needs and tastes of both the crossover and sedan shoppers. Therefore, payload and towing weren’t prioritized during the design process.

In a nutshell, according to some experts on cars, Santa Cruz should fill a void in the market in terms of size, price, and capability.

2016 Hyundai Santa Cruz Exterior

Hyundai has introduced a shiny silver 5-passenger crossover accompanied by a small pickup-truck bed called Santa Cruz, which is intended to be used for hauling soccer gear, snowboards and the rest of recreational and sports equipment that its consumers need to haul around.

The 2016 Hyundai Santa Cruz designers actually succeeded in placing the rear axle on the right place, unlike the designers of some other cars who placed it in between of the cab and the bed, thus spoiling the vehicle’s design.

This vehicle looks sleek and fast, like a crossover with the rear part of the hood chopped off.

The 2016 Hyundai Santa Cruz is a 4-passenger vehicle, with two small back doors to help with entry and exit. What is significant when it comes to this vehicle with a small bed with a lockable tonneau cover, is that with an active lifestyle, there are things people wish to transport that are either too large, too stinky, or too dirty to put inside the cabin.

Santa Cruz should come with sliding rear seats, so the area can be used for comfort or cargo capacity.

Engine and performance

The 2016 Hyundai Santa Cruz should use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel producing 190 hp and 300 pound-feet of torque. The maximum speed of Santa Cruz with this engine will be 115 mph, and 0-60 mph acceleration in a little less than 8.2 sec.

It should also be equipped with special Brembo brakes and air vents to cool down the engine. As for the fuel efficiency, as it was mentioned at the beginning, it should be able to achieve 30 mpg on the highway, making this vehicle much better than the majority of trucks in American market.

Price and release date

Hyundai has presented its new crossover model with the truck features on 2015 North American International Auto Show. It’s still a prototype and no one has the precise information about how much it will cost. But, there are rumors that the medium-equipped Hyundai Santa Cruz 2016 should cost a little less than 40,000 US Dollars.
