2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Facelift

The Hyundai Santa Fe was first unveiled in 1999 in Detroit and is Hyundai’s first crossover model. Since then, the Santa Fe has enjoyed impressive sales year after year.  The reasons for its continued good results largely lie on Hyundai’s efforts to update it regularly, its affordable pricing and good looks.

It lies between the Hyundai Tucson and Veracruz in the lineup of the South Korean automaker cars. The Santa Fe was first offered as a compact crossover before being converted to a medium-size crossover in 2006. The current model was redesigned in 2012 and sold as a 2013 model.

Therefore, the facelift comes at a good time when the model had already started to become rusty. Like the outgoing model, the new 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe will be offered in both 5-seater (Santa Fe Sport) and 7-seater cabin styles. The 7-seaters are 8.5 inches longer.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Exterior

The current Santa Fe is an attractive vehicle. However, to attract even more customers, Hyundai has tweaked the exterior to look even more eye-catching. At the front, the automaker has hooked up the vehicle with a gigantic bumper that is integrated with modified fog lights and redesigned LED DRLs.

Above the bumper is a hexagonal-shaped, new 3-section chrome grille. At the rear, the crossover features LED taillights and a redesigned bumper integrated with rear fog lights. Its exhaust pipe is attached with a chromed muffler. The Santa Fe will ride on 17-inch light-alloy wheels but there is an option for 19-inch wheels.

Dimension-wise, the vehicle has a length of 4,690 mm, width of 1,880 mm and a height of 1,675 mm. Its wheelbase spans 2,700 mm and it has a ground clearance level of 185 mm.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Interior

The interior is quite comfortable and luxurious. As said earlier, the Santa Fe will either accommodate five or seven passengers.  The seats are power adjustable in four spatial preferences while the driver’s seat is 10-way power adjustable.

The rear passengers get more legroom unlike the outgoing models. The vehicle comes with an 8.0-inch screen that controls its multi-media system. At the cockpit, the vehicle features a 3-spoke steering wheel wrapped in leather; two cluster displays are placed beneath the steering wheel. Its gear shifter is wisely mounted to improve its ergonomics. The steering wheel is also fitted with buttons that control its climate control system, audio system as well as other functions of the vehicle.

For entertainment, the Santa Fe features AM/FM radio, a DVD/CD player and a 6-speaker sound system. Other features include satellite navigation and GPS monitoring.  Connectivity features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and USB ports are also offered as standard.

For convenience, the vehicle is hooked up with a dual-zone climate control, a cluster ionizer and an inbuilt cooler which helps keep temperatures and the atmosphere in the cabin ideal.

In terms of its safety, the vehicle features multiple airbags, a rearview camera, ABS, parking assist, traction and stability control among others.

Engine Specs and performance

The Santa Fe comes in a choice of several drive-trains. The first engine is a 2.2 L, 4-cylinder petrol engine capable of 190 hp. This engine is expected to return a fuel efficiency of 20 mpg city and 27 mpg on highway.

The second engine is a turbocharged 2.0 L, 4-cylinder petrol engine which is capable of 265 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. It is estimated to return 19 mpg on city streets and 27 mpg on freeways in terms of fuel economy.

The third petrol engine is a 3.3 L, V-6 which can produce 290 hp but can be tweaked to produce up to 300 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. This engine is estimated to have a fuel economy of 20 mpg on combined drives.

There will also be two diesel engines on offer. The first engine is a 2.0 L engine good for 184 hp and 297 lb-ft of torque while the second engine is a 2.2 L unit which produces 200 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. There are also rumors of a hybrid engine but the automaker has remained tightlipped about it. The vehicle will have a top speed of 190 mph.

Price and release date

Hyundai is yet to release official information regarding the 2017 Santa Fe prices. However, according to rumors, the model’s price will not change significantly from the current price.

Currently, the base model costs $ 30,400 with the top Limited trim fetching $ 36,250. The model will first show its face at the Frankfurt Auto Show before being released to dealerships either in September or October this year.
