2016 KIA Forte is one of the most comprehensive compact-car lineups in the market today. It comes as a 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan as well as a 5-dooor hatchback.
2016 KIA Forte Exterior
All KIA Forte models are stylishly designed. The sedan rides on 15-inch steel wheels and heated mirrors with optional automatic headlights.
The Popular Plus package features 16-inch alloy wheels while the higher trim EX is hooked up with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, fog lights, power-folding exterior mirrors. The top SX trims feature large front brakes, and 18-inch wheels.

In addition to its excellent fuel economy ratings, the KIA Forte boasts a pleasant interior. It features high quality material and high-tech features in higher trims that can rival premium-brand compact cars.
The sedan is offered in LX and EX trims while the hatchback is available in EX, SX and LX which is new for 2016 model year. The coupe is offered in EX and SX trims. The LX trim of the sedan features a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a height adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40-split folding rear seat, 4-speaker audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port and auxiliary audio jack.
Buyers will have an option to opt for the LX Popular Package which adds cruise control, a 4.3 touch-screen, 6-speakers audio system, a rear view camera and rear seat armrest. The EX comes with all the features in LX but adds a steering wheel wrapped in leather. There is also a EX premium package which features a keyless ignition and entry, a sunroof, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a navigation system, HD radio as well KIA’s Uvo eservices telematics. Further, there’s a EX Premium Plus package which features a 10-way power driver seat with ventilation, heated steering wheel, an upgraded gauge cluster, dual-zone climate control and heated and ventilated rear seats. The EX hatchback and coupe have similar features and equipment with the sedan while the EX and SX Premium Tech packages offers similar features as the EX premium and Premium Plus packages.
When it comes to cargo space, the sedan offers 14.9 cubic feet, hatchback 23.2 cubic feet when the rear seats are up while the coupe offers 13.3 cubic feet. The rear seats in the sedan are comfortable even for 6-foot adults. The coupe’s seat is mounted high to enhance visibility for short drivers.
Engine Specs and Performance
The 2016 KIA Forte lineup comes with a choice between two drive-trains. The base unit is the 1.8 L inline-4 which produces 145 hp and 130 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox but there is an option for a 6-speed automatic system. The engine is offered in FWD. The engine is EPA rated at 26/39/31 mpg city/highway/combined with the automatic and 25/37/30 mpg city/highway / combined with the manual system.
The second engine is a 2.0 L that produces 173 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque. It is paired only to a 6-speed automatic transmission system on the sedan and hatchback but the coupe has a manual option. The engine is EPA rated at 24/35/28 mpg for city/highway/combined drives while the automatic EX hatchbacks and coupes are rated at 28 mpg combined and the manual models at 27 mpg. The engine accelerates from 0-60 mph in 6,8 seconds which is pretty impressive in this class and has a top speed of 130 mph.
The SX trim of the coupe and Forte 5 feature a turbocharged 1.6 L 4-cylinder unit that produces 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque and the engine is paired with either a 6-speed automatic or 6- speed manual transmission system. The engine is EPA rated at 21/29/24 mpg city/highway/combined for the SX hatchback and 22/29/25 mpg city/highway/combined for the Coupe.
Price and release date
The 2016 KIA Forte LX sedan will be the cheapest with an MSRP of $ 16,800 for the one with manual transmission and $ 1,700 more for the automatic one.
The EX will attract around $ 21,000 while the LX hatchback will have a starting price of around $ 20,000 and around $ 1,600 more for the SX with turbo engine and around 22,500 for the one with an automatic system.
The coupe’s EX trim will cost around $ 19,500 and $ 21,500 for the SX trim. The models are expected to hit dealerships before the end of this year.
