Mazda Koeru Crossover Concept

During this year’s Frankfurt Auto show held recently, Mazda showcased with a new crossover concept dubbed the “Mazda Koeru”. The name which is in Japanese is translated to mean “go beyond” or ‘exceed’ in English and signalizes Mazda’s endeavor to surpass existing motoring standards and raise performance levels in all quarters.

The automaker has not communicated information on what brand the concept previews or whether the model will make actually make it to production. However, the Mazda Koeru concept looks like a preview of the Mazda CX-9 or a remodeled design of the CX-7 which was discontinued three years ago.

Mazda Koeru Exterior Specs

The exterior of the Mazda Koeru showcases the advancement of Mazda’s Kodo design language. The Koeru concept model measures 181.3 inches long, 74.8 inches wide and 59.1 inches tall. It has a wheelbase of 106.3 inches. Its look appears to be compact and more athletic with smooth lines all over the body.

The auto maker has paid a great deal of attention on the vehicle’s aerodynamics where the design has optimized on airflow over the upper body; we also understand that the under belly has also been engineered  so as to minimize air turbulence At the front, the vehicle features a large, heptagonal grille featuring Mazda’s emblem at the center top. The front also features muscular front fenders and slim headlights with LED technology.

Except for the aggressive front bumper and thinner headlights, the front of the Koeru is similar to that of the 2016 Mazda CX-5 or that of the 2016 Mazda CX-3. At the rear, the Koeru features small horizontal taillights, large exhaust outlets and a sloping roof and tailgate which give this crossover model a coupe-like look which is enhanced by the blacked-out pillars. The vehicle stands on 21-inch wheels. We expect most of the styling cues of this five-door crossover to be featured in other Mazda’s production models later on.

The Koeru also showcases Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE safety package which composes intelligent cruise control, lane departure warning, rear collision alert and headlights which can be switched between full and low beam and that also point to the steering direction. The Koeru Crossover concept also features Mazda’s breakthrough NVH technology which reduces noise and vibration inside the cabin translating to quieter rides.

Mazda Koeru SUV Concept Engine

Mazda didn’t disclose any information about power-trains that will drive the Koeru, all the automaker revealed is that the vehicle would employ the automaker’s latest SkyActiv technology.

Our analysis of the vehicle suggests the automaker could place a 2.5 L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit or a 2.2 L turbocharged diesel SkyActive engine under its hood. We will inform you of the engine the automaker decides to go with if the vehicle makes it to production.
