Quite agile due to its size, the small crossover 2016 Mercedes Benz GLA is the perfect combo of flexibility, fuel efficiency and fun.
The exterior is equipped with 5-twin-spoke 18” AMG light-alloy wheels wrapped in 235/45 R 19 tires, AMG front apron with front splitter in matt titanium grey, AMG ‘twin blade’ radiator grille in matt titanium grey, bi-xenon headlamps, rear diffuser insert with titanium grey trim, and rectangular chrome-plated tailpipe trim at the twin tailpipes.
The GLA 2016 is light, weighing under 3,500 pounds, which helps its performance.
The interior of the new Mercedes 2016 GLA is amazing. It comes with an attractive dashboard with a central high mounted navigation screen. As for the infotainment part, the interior is standardly equipped with a 7” display and Bluetooth audio streaming. These are followed by innovative multimedia options for navigation, music (an iPod and MP3 interface), USB port, online features and prewiring for Garmin Map Pilot. The optional rearview camera now shows a 180-degree view as well. Other new features include keyless start, cruise control and dual-zone climate control.
The seats are sporty. There is also a nice touch of a dual moon roof. Overall, the interior is very spacious, with plenty of cargo room.
Although the navigation system does provide directional assistance, the driver must remain focused on safe driving behavior. Standard safety features include forward collision warning with auto braking, drowsy driver detection, 8 airbags, stability control and ABS. Additional safety options include adaptive cruise control, adaptive high-beam assist, speed-limit sign assist, blind-spot assist and lane-keeping assist.
Engine Specs and performance
Under the hood of the GLA 250 is a 2.0-liter Turbo Inline-4 engine delivering 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT dual-clutch auto-manual transmission and a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive platform. The GLA250 is able to develop acceleration of 0 – 60 mph in 7.1 seconds.
The GLA45 4Matic model comes with a handcrafted AMG 2.0-liter Turbo Inline-4 engine with an output of 355 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. This engine develops acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.
ECO Start/Stop automatically shuts off the engine at red lights to save fuel, and then restarts the very moment the driver’s ready to move on.
Price and release date
The official price of the 2016 Mercedes Benz GLA 250 is $31,300 and of the GLA45 4Matic is $48,300. Both versions are expected to be released by the end of this year.
