2016 Mitsubishi L200 Exterior

The 2016 Mitsubishi L200 features a host of changes compared to the outgoing model. The exterior profile design is inspired by the GR-HEV. The model nonetheless maintains its compact look we are accustomed to but looks sportier.

At the front, the new look features a new chromed grille featuring 6 rectangular shaped slots. Flanking the grille is a pair of larger LED headlights. The front bumper has also been made thicker. At the rear, you will find a protruding bumper, larger taillights and a sturdier tailgate.

The sides have also been improved and feature new creases on the wheels. The new creases make the model look tough. According to credible sources, the L200 will be first released in 4-door bodies (double cabs), 2-door bodied models (single cabs) will follow later on.

The interior has been modified to offer more comfort and modern features. The new cabin is more spacious and provides plenty of space to comfortably accommodate five passengers. Actually, the L200 provides the best interior length in the segment; its Shoulder room has been increased by 10mm, rear room by 20mm and overall length by 20mm.

The dash is mounted with a 7.0-inch touch-screen, a modified instrument cluster and air vents. Its seats are upholstered in a quality cloth. Front seats feature armrests while the driver’s seat is power-adjustable. Interior door handles are finished with a chrome accenting. The steering position can be altered to suit different drivers’ heights. It is done by adjusting its tilt and telescopic steering wheel.

For entertainment, the model comes with a 4-speaker audio system which enables Bluetooth connectivity and Smartphone integration.  The system also features all necessary technical ports. The touch-screen display also integrates DAB radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. It also features satellite navigation and Smartphone integration. An automatic climate control system is readily available to keep temperatures ideal in the cabin.

Engine Specs

The 2016 Mitsubishi L200 is powered by a MIVEC diesel engine tuned in two different states. The engine is a 2.4 L turbo-diesel which produces 154 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.  This is the entry level engine. For more power, the engine is tweaked to produce 181 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque.

The engines are mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a MMC’s 5-speed which features Sport Mode and paddle-shifting system.  The vehicle is offered in 4WD which helps the model achieve a better all-terrain performance. The system has a choice of four modes including 2WD for optimum fuel economy and three 4WD modes for handling different terrains. Fuel efficiency ranges from 41 mpg on the highway for models with 6-speed manual transmission, up to 28 mpg in the city for a model with automatic transmission.

The engine also features MMC’s Stop & Go idling stop system which helps it improve fuel economy. The automaker has managed to lower its CO2 emissions to 169 g/km up from 199 g/km on the outgoing models.

Top speed for weaker engine is 105 mph, while the more powerful reaches 111 mph.

The L200 lags behind in the load area.  The model comes with a towing capacity of just 3.1t which is not impressive as the industry is moving towards 3.5 t as the new standard.  Its maximum payload of 1,050 kg also needs improvement.
