Crossover models have become so common that manufacturers who previously shunned them are quickly trying to keep up with the trend while the already established brands are being redesigned to remain competitive in this auto market segment. One of the best crossovers in the market is Nissan Murano. The new 2016 Nissan Murano will come in a stunning, aggressive appearance and has all it takes to be among the best mid-size crossovers.
Nissan Murano 2016 Exterior
The redesigned Nissan Murano 2016 has shed off some considerable weight due to the use of lightweight material such as aluminum. The front fascia will get boomerang shaped, protruding Automatic on/off headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights. The car also features a futuristic look with sporty and swoopy lines enhanced by a floating-like roof that makes the rear roof section appear as if it is suspended only on glass.
It also features chrome accents here and there. The new model is slightly bigger compared to the predecessor translating to more cargo and passenger space. The basic trim level S comes with 18 “aluminum-alloy wheels and P235 / 65R18 all-season tires. Power Panoramic Moonroof is option for higher trim levels.
2016 Nissan Murano Interior
From the information we have received and according to its prototype, the 2016 Nissan Murano will come with a comfortable and pleasant interior. To start with, it will have “zero gravity’ seats which offer more support.
The dash board has been redesigned and will feature matte silver and chrome finishes. The cabin is spacious with seats covered in premium cloth. Other features will include automated wipers, a navigation system, blind spot detection system, forward collision system, cross traffic alert system, automatic climate control and an adaptive cruise control system.
The 2016 Nissan Murano will also feature 3 radar systems and 4 cameras which provide an excellent all round view. There will be three trim levels for this model and each will have its additional special features. It will also have telescopic steering wheels, HD radio, iPod interface, Smartphone app integration, satellite radio among others.
However in addition to the above features the 2016 Nissan Murano will also have a quality music system along with a 7-inch touch-screen as standard in the base trim. Higher trims will feature 8-inchtouch-screens which offer clearer views. Higher trims will also feature power tilt, a steering wheel which is telescoping heated, 20-inch alloy wheels as well as heated and ventilated seats. The Murano will be availed in four trim levels which will be S, SV, SL, and Platinum.
For safety, it will have front side and driver kneel airbags, front head restraint and additional controls to boost its stability and handling.
Engine, Specs and Performance
It is not clear what engine the manufacture will put under the hood of the Murano. Rumors going around suggest three possible units i.e. a gasoline, diesel and a hybrid engine. The first of the three units is a 3.5 L V6 DOHC engine adopted from the Nissan Maxima. This engine will produce 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. It will move from 0-60 mph in only 7.5 second. Fuel consumption with this engine in the city will be about 21 mpg while on the highway is about 28 mpg.
The second engine will be a 2.4 L 4-cylinder DCI engine. The third engine is a hybrid 2.5 L, 4-cylinder hybrid engine that is combined with a 15Kw electric motor. This hybrid unit is expected to produce 260 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque.
Release date and price
The new Murano will be released in the second half of 2015 most likely during the Los Angeles Auto show in November. The base trim level will cost around $ 30,000. Top-of-the-line Platinum trim with AWD will attract a price tag of around $ 39,000.
Competition in the class of midsize crossover is very strong, all the manufacturers are trying to attract customers and capture as much as possible market share. Vehicles similar to the new Nissan Murano are: Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Ford Edge, Toyota 4Runner.
