2016 Nissan Sentra

In all its 25 years of existence, Nissan Sentra has posted awesome sales. However, the compact and midsize sedan market segment is fast becoming competitive and to stay ahead Nissan is redesigning the Sentra for the 2016 model year.

According to Nissan’s head of sales in the U.S, the new Sentra will be significantly redesigned.  The automaker is still happy with the Sentra but argues that good times don’t last forever hence the decision to carry out an extensive redesign rather than wait for a full redesign amid increased competition.

We hope Nissan is right because the restyling comes amid a 15.5% increase in sales this year through May as well as having sold a record 183,268 units last year in the US.

2016 Nissan Sentra Exterior

Nissan has retained the dimensions of the outgoing model as well as most of its styling cues.  However, the model has borrowed some design features from the Nissan Pulsar which is sold in European markets.

At the front, the old-looking tall and wide headlamps have been replaced with wider and angular-shaped headlights which are mounted lower on the new model. The headlights have also been integrated with better LED running lights. The headlights flank a V-shaped grille adopted from the Pulsar. The front bumper has also been redesigned and features larger openings to allow more air distribution to the engine.

At the rear, the 2016 Nissan Sentra features a Formula 1 inspired bumper integrated with dual exhaust pipes. The 4-door Sentra will ride on 18-inch alloy wheels which are wrapped with high-quality traction tires.

2016 Nissan Sentra Interior

The interior has also been redesigned to improve its comfort and safety standing. The cabin will accommodate five passengers on its seats which are upholstered high quality cloth. The seats are more gripping for enhanced support. The driver will experience a better driving experience courtesy of the new, highly-functional, steering wheel which is wrapped in leather. The steering wheel also provides a strong grip when driving.

The vehicle will also feature SYNC with My Nissan touch, Bluetooth and USB connectivity as well as Smartphone integration. It will also come with an advanced Sony audio system. For safety, standard features will include a rear-view camera and blind spot monitoring system. Higher trims will be offered with additional safety features and an enhanced driving aids package.

Engine Specs and Performance

Under the hood of the 2016 Nissan Sentra, Nissan has replaced the 1.8 L engine which used to produce 130 hp with still a 1.8 L engine borrowed from the Nissan Nismo. The new engine is capable of producing 240 hp up from 130 hp in the outgoing model.

The base trim models will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission system while higher trims will be offered in either the manual system or a CVT automatic transmission system.

The engine’s fuel economy is pretty impressive. When paired with a manual transmission, the engine returns 27 mpg for city and 36 mpg on highway drive. On the other hand, models with a CVT transmission system deliver 30 mpg in city drives and 40 mpg on highway. Power will be channeled to the front wheels. The engine is further linked to a performance exhaust system which the automaker has tuned to deliver a sporty sound character.

Price and release date

The 2016 Nissan Sentra will likely make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto show which will be held this month with sales following in the second quarter of 2016. We expect the vehicle’s MSRP price to range from $ 30,000 and $ 40,000.

New models of the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla will be the 2016 Nissan Sentra’s main rivals.
