2017 Nissan Versa Note

Nissan has revised the Versa Note to bring it in line with other Nissan models. The new model for the first time wears Nissan’s “V-Motion” grille, which brings its look close to other Nissan models. The 2017 Nissan Versa Note also features other visual upgrades that make it look more premium. Apart from the visual upgrades, everything else carries over almost unchanged including the drive-train and the cabin styling. Read along for more information.

2017 Nissan Versa Note Exterior

The automaker focused most of the facelift on the front fascia where the Versa Note features Nissan’s V-Motion grille. On the model, the grille looks taller and narrower than that of the previous model. Sweptback halogen headlights that have been slightly modified flank the grille. Its new bumper looks sportier and it is integrated with two-tier central intakes. Rectangular shaped fog lights have replaced the previous round ones. The fog lights feature black bezels that give the Note a somewhat premium look. The flanks are unchanged.

At the rear, all trims get a sportier bumper that features a tailgate spoiler and a diffuser-like element painted in black. The S Plus and SV trims come with new wheel covers. The SL gets 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Going for the SR gets you body-colored side sills as well as turn signals that are integrated into the side mirrors.

Two new color options are available; they are the Deep Blue, Pearly and Monarch Orange.

2017 Nissan Versa Note Interior

The interior layout carries over unchanged. However, there are minor upgrades. They include addition of larger cup holders while the USB auxiliary port and 12-volt outlet have been relocated towards the front of the center console. For the SR trim, Nissan adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SL on the other hand gets a 5.8-inch color touch-screen, NissanConnectSM that features mobile apps and navigation, SiriusXM Traffic, Voice Recognition for audio and navigation systems, heated front seats and Around View Monitor.

Other features are carried over unchanged. The Versa Note has a larger cabin than most of its competitors with ample legroom. Its high and arched roofline ensures its headroom is sufficient.

Although the Versa Note is an economical car, it does not mean it is devoid of cool technology. The model comes with a stereo system borrowed from the Altima, POI functionality and Google Send-To-Car functionality.

The model extensive use of plastic on the dash, center console and door panels make the model’s cabin look and feel cheap. Despite this, the model has one of the best cabins in its segment.

Engine specs and performance

Just like the outgoing version of the Nissan Versa Note, the new model comes with a single engine. The mill is a 1.6 L, 4-cylinder engine that produces the same 109 hp and 107 lb-ft of torque. The engine features a dual injector system, an electronic drive-by-wire as well as variable valve timing control.

Well, I am not going to talk about its 0-60 mph acceleration because for such a car, it is not that important; however, what is important to buyers is the fuel economy and the Versa is excellent at it. The Versa Note returns 31 mpg in city and 39 mpg on highway when the mill is paired with an Xtronic automatic transmission system that features a revised D-Step Logic Control. Choosing the five-speed manual gearbox gets you 27 mpg on highway and 36 mpg on highway, which is not bad at all.

Price and release date

The new model starts at $15,480, which is $1,250 more than that of the outgoing version. The increase is because the previous entry-level model S was discontinued leaving the S plus as the base and thus the least expensive Versa Note. The SV starts at $16,380 while the SR starts at $17,980. The top-of-the-range SL trim starts at $18,710.

Top rivals of the 2017 Nissan Versa Note are the likes of Toyota Yaris and KIA Rio.
