Previously, when an Opel Adam enthusiast wanted to buy a sporty Opel Adam, they would turn to the Adam S and when they desired a rugged and more competent Adam, they would turn to the Adam Rocks.
But there was a group of buyers left out in the dark, those looking for a sporty and yet competent Adam. To satisfy such customers, Opel decided join the two models together and offer customers a taste of both worlds. The product is the Adam Rocks S.
2016 Opel Adam Rocks S Exterior
The exterior profile of the 2016 Opel Adam Rocks S is a perfect combination of rugged and adventurous styling with a sporty performance that creates a whole new personality for the Opel Adam. The look is enhanced by well defined contours of the side sills and a protective cladding which give it a purposeful appearance.
To add to the experience is a “swing top canvas roof” which opens in 5 seconds. The roof is offered in five colors which contrast with the 11 body colors offered for the Adam Rocks S 2016. Other features include a lowered suspension and extended rear bumper which is integrated with a sports exhaust pipe.
2016 Opel Adam Rocks S Interior
The interior styling of the Adam Rocks S is adapted from the Adam S. The only equipment adapted from the Adam Rocks is the fabric roof. The roof is mounted to create the impression of riding in a convertible. The roof is operated by a touch of a button and can open and close with speeds of up to 140 km/h.
The small hatchback accommodates four passengers on Recaro sports seats. However, while the driver and the front passenger will experience a sufficient leg room, the same cannot be said for the rear passengers. In fact, if the driver is taller than 1.85 meters, the Opel Adam Rocks S becomes a three-seater car. When the rear bench is up, the cabin offers a 170 L cargo space which expands to 663 L upon folding the bench.
Other features include a multifunction steering wheel and an IntelliLink infotainment system integrated with a 7-inch touch-screen display. The infotainment system links iOS and Android phones with the car. For safety, the hatchback features Blind spot alert, advanced park assist, bolstered seatbelts and a package of airbags among others.
Engine Specs and Performance
The 2016 Opel Adam Rocks S comes with a single drive-train. The unit is a turbocharged 1.4 L, Ecotec gasoline engine that comes good with 150 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque.
The engine has an impressive fuel economy which is rated at 39.8 mpg on combined drives. It is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox which channels power to the front wheels only.
The engine pushes the car to make the 0-60 mph dash in 8.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 130 mph though no one will be crazy enough to push the Rock S to that limit.
Price and release date
The vehicle was unveiled in the spring at the Amsterdam Auto Show and is already on sale in Germany. The Opel Adam Rocks S sells at €19,900 ( $21,000) in the local market a figure which will slightly vary across other markets.
