The crossover segment is the fastest growing automobile market segment. Manufacturers are working tirelessly to keep their models fresh as well as offer improved features in a bid to remain competitive.
The Peugeot 2008 was only launched recently in 2013 and already the automaker is looking to release its second generation. The model targets the urban dwellers and since it’s pretty new and that the model received a good reception in its present state, Peugeot will keep things almost the same but only add a few tweaks here and there. The new 2016 Peugeot 2008 is offered in four trim levels which are; Access+, Active, Allure and Feline.
2016 Peugeot 2008 Exterior
The exterior will largely remain the same as the predecessor model. It is still based on the PF1 which is also used on the Peugeot 208 from which it borrows most of its exterior looks. The vehicle will feature a redesigned grille which is framed in chrome. Its headlights have also been modified and will feature LED lighting.
Still on the front, the vehicle will have a redesigned black front bumper integrated with fog lights. The rear keeps the predecessor model look but has been hooked up with LED taillights. 16-inch alloy wheels are offered as standard but there is an option for 17 –inch alloy wheels.
2016 Peugeot 2008 Interior
The interior of the new Peugeot 2008 2006 is stylish and comfortable. The crossover accommodates five passengers in its leather upholstered seats that feature a lovely brownish trim. The seats are well positioned to offer plenty of head and leg room.
It also offers plenty of cargo space at 410 liters which expands to 1,400 liters upon folding the rear seats. At the front, there is a leather wrapped power steering wheel. There is also a 7-inch touch-screen mounted on the center of the dash board which displays important information on the vehicle as well as other controls. Its windows are power operated. For connectivity, the vehicle is hooked up with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot and USB ports.
There is also a modern infotainment system with a media input option. Other features include pleasant lighting which is enhanced by a panoramic roof, dual-zone climate control, keyless ignition and automatic air conditioning. Higher trims feature satellite navigation, auto wipers, a full length glass roof and heated front seats. For safety, the vehicle features 6 airbags and an enhanced driving aids package which includes traction control, electronic stability control, hill start assist, ABS with brake assist and electronic brake force distribution.
2016 Peugeot 2008 Engine
Under the hood of the 2016 Peugeot 2008, there are 2 petrol engines and a diesel drive-train to choose from. The base engine is a 1.2 L, 3-cylinder gasoline unit good for 82 hp and 87 lb-ft of torque. Its fuel economy is rated at 42 mpg for city, 55 mpg on highway and 49 mpg combined. The engine is paired either to a 5 or 6-speed manual transmission system.
The second unit is a 1.6 L, 4-cylinder gasoline unit that produces 120 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque. In terms of fuel economy, this engine is rated at 31 mpg, 49 mpg and 40 mpg for city, highway and town drives respectively.
Switching to diesel, the unit is a 1.4 L, 4-cylinder engine that produces 68 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque. This engine delivers fuel economy of 51 mpg for city, 65 mpg on highway and 59 mpg for combined drives. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission system.
There are also rumors of a hybrid engine. The unit being put forward uses a petrol engine, compressed air and a hydraulic motor pump. The system is paired with an automatic transmission with epicyclic gear train. The hybrid works in three ways either only on petrol, on air or both combined. The engine is rated at 81.1 mpg and has a CO2 emission rating of 69 g/km.
Price and release date
Peugeot has not yet released official details on the 2016 Peugeot 2008 release date or price. However, rumor has it that the model will be released in this last quarter of 2015. The price of the vehicle will increase slightly and will range from $ 22,500 up to $ 33,000 for high trim models with diesel engines and luxury equipment package.
