2017 Peugeot 5008

The Peugeot 5008 has finally become “Man”…what am I talking about? Well, after debuting as a 7-seater MPV, Peugeot has now upgraded the “5008’ to a full 7-seat SUV. The MPV has transitioned to a traditional SUV with a very aggressive stance.  After staying out of the party for long, Peugeot has finally found its “SUV dancing shoes” and is now ready to join the “SUV dance floor”. The 2017 Peugeot 5008 joins the likes of Skoda Kodiaq and Mazda CX-9, other fairly new SUV models aimed at the suburban customers.

According to the automaker, the 5008 features a good blend of off-road capability and on-road presence of an SUV with daily usability synonymous with MPVs. The model is larger than the MPV which makes it very practicable. Read along for more details:

2017 Peugeot 5008 Exterior

The 2017 Peugeot 5008 SUV has adopted a whole new face far from what we were accustomed to. Everything about the model has changed except its name.  The model, however shares its exterior cues with the new 3008. They also share the same platform, the Efficient Modular Platform (EMP2) but the 5008 has a longer wheelbase which helps improve its cabin space.

Despite its larger size, the new SUV is actually 95 kg lighter then the outgoing MPV. The model carries all the recent Peugeot signature styling cues such as LED DRLs which overlap headlights while at the rear, the automaker has arranged the taillights into three vertical strips that look like lion claws.

Peugeot has used chrome unsparingly on the model. Chrome is featured on the front grille, fog light surrounds as well as on the window surrounds. The bonnet is heavily creased. The sides on the other hand have some attractive curves. A chunky plastic element runs around the bottom and into the wheel arches. On the other hand, its black pillars create a “floating roof” impression. The roof is offered in a contrasting color to the bodywork.

2017 Peugeot 5008 Interior

The interior has been upgraded to offer the convenience and practicability synonymous with SUVs. It is offered in four trim levels which are the base Active, the mid Allure and GT Line and the range-topping GT trim. It also features latest technologies including the ‘i-Cockpit’ system.  The automaker has replaced conventional gauges with a 12.3-inch TFT screen which displays information on speed, fuel level, remaining range and satellite navigation information. There is another 8.0-inch screen on the dash for the infotainment system which has controls for climate and even for the digital radio. This has helped create a very clean and uncluttered dashboard.

The center console features chrome accenting on three sides. To make the cabin liverier, Peugeot offers the ‘i-Cockpit Amplify’ system as standard on the GT and GT Line and as an option on other trims. This system enables the driver to alter the color of the screens, ambient lighting, control seat massage system, adjusting audio settings as well as diffusing fragrances. There are three fragrances on offer, i.e. Harmony Wood, Aerodrive and Cosmic Cuir.

Due to its long wheelbase, the 5008 offers a high level of practicability.  Its cabin accommodates 7 passengers across three rows of seats. What’s more, the second row features three separate seats which mean one can fit in three separate child seats. The seats can also fold separately. Third row seats fold flat into the trunk to expand cargo space when needed. The SUV offers 702 liters of cargo space when the seats are in place. The space expands to 780 liters upon folding the third row and to a whopping 1,940 liters upon folding both the second- and third-row seats.

Technologies available include MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and voice activation. The SUV also comes with advanced driving aids such as Grip Control system (an advanced form of traction control) with five settings (normal, mud, snow, sand and ESP off). Other technologies are hill-descent control, distance alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning and headlights beam control system to ensure maximum illumination. In addition, the SUV features adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and “Visionpark”, a system that uses parking sensors and cameras to create a 360-degree view of the car to ease parking in tight spaces.

To entice buyers, Peugeot offers the vehicle with an optional electric e-Bike Ef01 (electric-assisted portable bicycle) or e-Kick (electric-assisted folding scooter) courtesy of collaboration between the automaker and MICRO, a scooter company.

Engine Specs and performance

Under the hood, the 2017 5008 SUV features an array of power-plants, both gasoline and diesel engines.
