According to Porsche, the new Spyder 2016 is both the most powerful and the fastest Boxster it has ever created. The main feature of 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder is reduced car weight compared to the previous model from 2011 (about 30 kg), improved aerodynamics, improved driving performance and nearly racing interior without a lot of frills, which would increase the weight.
2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder Exterior
The distinctive exterior design of the first Boxster Spyder was transferred to the 2016 model. The vehicle has two flying buttresses incorporated behind the seats. The streamlined elements descend all the way to the modified engine lid.
Porsche has worked on the lightness of the latest version of the Spyder model. It has the manually operated top, an impeccable design feature.
The vehicle’s racy front and rear fascias, same as the ones on Cayman GT4, are what makes it distinctive from its other “cousins”. The apron employs a new splitter and the air inlets are much larger. There is a slim air dam which is placed in front of the forward luggage section (also taken from Cayman GT4).
At the rear part, there is a slightly larger spoiler between the tail lamps.
Boxster Spyder 2016 Interior
Just like the exterior, the Spyder’s interior design is also unique. It’s focused on sheer driving pleasure. The sport seats are standard in the Spyder, whereas the regular steering while has been replaced with a wheel 0.4” smaller in diameter.
Since, this is a race car, all parts of the equipment which proved to be excessive at the track, such as the air conditioning units and the radio. These two can be ordered as no-cost options, though.
The rest of the interior has mostly standard Boxster look. This description might be giving the impression that the cabin design is too minimalistic, however there is an option of installing an entire range of audio systems, as well as the Porsche Communication Management System with navigation.
Engine and performance
The 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder will be using 911 Carrera S’ 3.8-liter flat-6 engine, whose production has been reduced to 375 horsepower in the Spyder. But still, as already mentioned, the Spyder is the most powerful and the quickest Boxster yet. It accelerates 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds quicker than the GTS model. As for the top speed, the vehicle can reach impressive 180 mph. The Spyder is the first Boxster with a 6-speed manual.
Some other features included are a firmer sport suspension with a 0.8” lower ride height, more direct steering and brakes borrowed from the 911 Carrera S.
