For a number of years, Lotus has used the same approach on its sports cars. After developing a new model, the automaker updates it by adding more lightness to it. This is what Lotus did to the Exige and the Elise making them quicker without significant engine upgrades.
Yet again, the automaker has used the same approach to their range-topping model, the Evora 400. The British automaker has taken the Evora and reduced its weight by using loads of carbon-fiber as well chucking out unnecessary materials and upgraded its engine though slightly.
The result is a quicker model that even sprints faster than the non-Turbocharged Porsche 911 Carrera from 0-60 mph .The new model has been christened the Evora Sport 410. The model will go on sale first in Europe this year before being shipped to the US later in the year.
2017 Lotus Evora 410 Sport Exterior
The exterior of the Sport 410 is identical to that of the Evora 400 except for its new stripes on the flanks, a rear wing and its 10-spoke forged aluminum wheels. The Sport 410 also has a lower suspension. Lotus has used tons of carbon-fiber on the Sport 410 body panels such as on the roof, front splitter, quarter panels, tailgate and the rear diffuser.
Its tailgate draws inspiration from Classic Lotus models which make the sports car look racy. The carbon-fiber materials have not only made the vehicle lighter but also have improved its aerodynamic down-force by 15 percent without any increase in drag. Most of its down-force is courtesy of the new tailgate. The tailgate also integrates a louvered section in place of the regular glass element.
The carbon fiber treatment has helped to give the vehicle a two-tone exterior finish. Actually, no matter the color you choose, the roof, front hood section, tailgate, rear diffuser and spoiler are offered in bare carbon-fiber which makes it look more track-oriented.
Buyers have an option to customize the 2017 Lotus Evora 410 Sport courtesy of the Lotus Exclusive program. The program enables buyers to choose between body colors with race themes like Motorsport Black and Essex blue. They also have an option for a range of racing stripes.
2017 Lotus Evora 410 Sport Interior
The interior uses much of the styling cues of the Evora 400. The most differences are due to the automaker’s great weight-saving upgrades. The cabin features carbon-fiber racing seats which are upholstered in either red or black Alcantara. The door panels are also finished in Alcantara. Both the seats and door panels feature contrast stitching. The automaker has also done away with armrest as well as stowage pocket door panels. Lotus has also removed speakers on models ordered without an infotainment system. Fuel cap and tailgate release buttons have also been relocated.
The cabin comes standard with gunmetal door release levers, a black carpet, and a lightweight aluminum gear knob on manual models, a Dark Grey headlining, aluminum pedal pads, lightweight footrests and door sills with “Evora Sport 410” lettering. The steering wheel and its center console feature Alcantara trimming.
An infotainment system is offered on an optional basis. The system features Bluetooth connectivity, iPod, a 4-speaker sound system, satellite navigation as well as a reverse camera. If you want extra insulation, an air conditioning system, sound insulation, sound visors and cruise control, you will have to dig deeper into your pockets. For more comfort, you can also opt for the adjustable Sparco seats similar to those on the Evora 400.
Engine Specs and Performance
Like its sibling the Evora 400, the 2017 Evora Sport 410 features a supercharged 3.5 L V-6 engine which is sourced from Toyota. The engine has been tweaked to produce 410 hp and 302 lb-ft of torque which presents a 10-horsepower improvement from the Evora 400.
Though the improvement in output is little, the automaker has reduced its weight by 154 pounds compared to the Evora 400 making it faster. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission system. With this power, the Evora 410 accelerates from standstill to 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds when mated to an automatic transmission and 4.0 seconds with the manual.
This makes the Sport 410 the first ever road-legal Evora to break the 4.0 seconds barrier. The model is two tenths quicker than the Sport 400 but it retains the same 186 mph top speed (174 mph for automatic models). The engine is further boosted by a Torsen-type limited-slip differential, a lightweight low inertia fly wheel and active exhaust valve control system. Lightweight aluminum paddles are offered on an optional basis.
Price and release date
Lotus has not yet announced the price of the 2017 Evora 410 Sport in the US. However, the automaker confirmed that the model will be available in the US in the second half of 2016. As for the price, in U.K, the vehicle retails at £79,900 which represents an 11% premium over the Evora Sport 400.
Using the same formula in the US, the 2017 Lotus Evora 410 Sport could start at around $ 99,800 since the Evora Sport 400 retails at $ 89,900 in the US. Lotus also said that only 150 units will be produced and sold globally. Therefore, if you are interested you better hurry and place an order.
