Toyota has revealed the next generation Fortuner, which will have its debut in India in early 2016. The current generation Toyota Fortuner has proved to be a great success.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner has an uneven exterior look with angular-shaped chrome grille, short front overhang, tall ground clearance as well as high beltline. The window-line kink is there to visually improve the flanks and break up the sides. Its only drawback is that it creates a blind spot. The vehicle has received new rear end taillights with some chrome accents. The step bumper makes the roof and a stepping point for getting into the rear cargo area easier to access. Side steps below the doors also facilitate entry and exit.
Depending on trim level, the Fortuner comes with either 17” or 18” alloy wheels. The two higher trim levels come with a roof rack, fog lights, and reverse parking sensors. Every trim level comes with a rear-view camera. As for the trim levels, there are the base GX, midgrade GXL, and the range-topping Crusade.
The Crusade is equipped with extra features, including bi-LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, a power-operated rear hatch, and the 18” wheels.
2016 Toyota Fortuner Interior
Little is known about the 2016 Toyota Fortuner’s interior, but it is estimated that there will be no major changes and updates in comparison to the 2016 Toyota Hilux on which is based.
Front and rear air conditioning, seven airbags, hill-start control, and an emergency stop light for hard braking situations are likely to be common to all trim levels. The Fortuner also comes with an air conditioned cooler box that keeps food and drinks cool or warm.
If that’s the case, the Fortuner should have a well-designed gauge cluster accompanied by two analog gauges flanking a center information screen. A large touch-sensitive infotainment screen dominates the center dashboard and controls the functions such as radio, navigation, and vehicle settings.
As for the seating, it is arranged in a 2+3+2 format. The second and third row seats can fold flat.
Engine Specs and performance
Under the hood of the new Fortuner 2016 will be Toyota’s 2.8-liter 1GD 4-cylinder turbodiesel, mated to the 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine delivers 174 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration from 0-60 mph sprint in about 9.5 seconds, while top speed is 115 mph.
The customers can opt for a 6-speed manual transmission as well, though the engine’s torque is then reduced to 309 pound-feet.
Behind both the manual and automatic transmission is the two-speed transfer case. The part-time system offers conventional RWD, 4WD high range, 4WD low range, and a neutral position.
Price and release date
Toyota has not yet announced information on the pricing of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner, although it is expected to have a starting price of around $45,000. New Fortuner was unveiled on July-17 2015, and will be released on market early next year.
