2017 Toyota RAV4

As new models enter the crossover market, existing models are getting their game better and better. One such model is the Toyota RAV4. In this class, Toyota leads from the front with the RAV4. The 2017 Toyota RAV4 offers a good balance of various aspects including performance, convenience, comfort and functionality among others. Read along for more information:

2017 Toyota RAV4 Exterior

Toyota has revised the exterior look of the 2017 RAV4 to be more enticing to customers. The new changes commence at the front where the crossover flaunts a new, narrow radiator grille, which is flanked by compact headlamps. A gigantic bumper lies below the grille. The lip of the bumper seems lifted higher compared to the 2016 model. The bumper also holds new round-shaped fog lights. Large glazed doors and flared wheel arches, characterize the sides. In addition, the side mirrors are integrated with LED light strips, which double up as turn signals.

You will also notice the models neat roof rails that enhance its appealing look. At the back, Toyota has revised the taillights and the bumper. A shark fin has also replaced the antenna on the outgoing model’s trunk-lid resulting in a sporty look. The new Toyota RAV4 rides on a set of 17-inch aluminum wheels. There is an option for 18-inch wheels on the Limited and Platinum trims.

2017 Toyota RAV4 Interior

Toyota has also refreshed the cabin for the 2017 model year. The RAV4 accommodates five passengers. It new seats have received an extra padding to offer more comfort even during long drives. Designers used scooped-out front-door panels to provide extra room for the driver and front passenger. The SE trim is upholstered in a quality cloth with higher trims receiving SofTex, a material used as a substitute for leather. SofTex is environmental friendly and is also more water resistant. With rear seats in place, the RAV4 offers a cargo space of 38.4 cubic feet that expands to 73.4 cubic feet upon folding of its 60/40 split rear seats.

The cabin features awesome equipment such as a rearview camera, keyless remote entry, and Toyota’s Entune infotainment system that features a 6.1-inch display screen. The infotainment system also features a USB port, voice recognition, Bluetooth connectivity and a 6-speaker sound system among others. A 7.0-inch screen, Siri Eyes Free, dual-zone climate control and an 11-speaker audio system are standard on higher trims.

Engine Specs and performance

Toyota offers two engine options for the RAV4, a conventional as well as a hybrid engine. The conventional engine is a 2.5 L, 4-cylinder petrol unit that is capable of producing 176 horses and 172 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. With this engine, the crossover accelerates to 60 mph from standstill in under 10 minutes. Front-wheel-drive is offered as standard but buyers can opt for the AWD system at an extra cost. With FWD, the model returns 23 mpg and 29 mpg on city and highway drives respectively while with an AWD system, it returns 22mpg and 28 mpg on city and highway drives respectively.

For the environmental conscious buyers, Toyota offers the 2.5 L, 4-cylinder mill that combines with two motors mounted on each axle for a total of 194 hp and 2016 lb-ft of torque. This hybrid drive-train mates to a CVT system and AWD as standard. The hybrid mill returns 34 mpg, city and 30 mpg on highways.

Price and release date

Price of the new Toyota RAV4 has changed slightly compared to the 2016 model. The MSRP of the base LE trim is set at $26,700. The top Platinum trim fetches as much as $37,200. The hybrid model starts at $30,000. The new Toyota RAV4 is already available in Toyota dealerships.


The 2017 Toyota RAV4 competes with the likes of Subaru Forester, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, Kia Sportage and Nissan Rogue.
