Volvo has decided to expand its S60 range with two new additions for the 2016 model year. One is the long-wheelbase S60 Inscription that’s sourced from China, and the other is the unique S60 Cross Country soft-road sedan that we’re particularly interested in here.
Exterior-wise, the 2016 Volvo S60 Cross Country is a combination of the S60 sedan and the V60 Cross Country. The vehicle features the S60’s design cues and shares the V60’s increased ride height – the Cross Country is 2.5” higher in comparison to the regular sedan. It also features stylish wheels, available in 18” and 19”, and high-profile tires. The high-profile tires add both comfort and all-road aesthetics to the vehicle, while at the same time increasing wheel protection on rough road surfaces.
The vehicle has received the underbody protection front and rear typical of the Cross Country, wheel-arch cladding and SUV-like side skirts.
2016 Volvo S60 Cross Country Interior
Inside, the 2016 Volvo S60 Cross Country is highly reminiscent of the regular S60. This means that the cabin is very modern and luxurious with specific attention paid to details. Bolstered seats offer the absolute comfort to the driver and front passenger. The important information is displayed by an all-new instrument cluster which was introduced with the redesigned S60 in 2013. Interiors of all trim levels are spruced up with leather surfaces, wood and aluminum trims, including the base version.
Extra 2.9” of legroom has been added to the S60 Inscription, which also comes with some premium features such as walnut and metal inlays, interior accent lighting, a power rear sunshade, side window shades, 18” alloy wheels and Inscription-branded tread plates.
Some other standard features include a sport, multi-function steering wheel, dual-zone Electronic Climate Control, power, 8-way adjustable driver seat, Volvo Sensus with integrated 7” color display, a premium audio system with 8 speakers, and Bluetooth hands-free interface with audio streaming.
Engine Specs and performance
The new S60 Cross Country 2016 comes with just one engine option – the base T5 (shared with the V60 Cross Country). The turbocharged, 2.5-liter, 5-cylinder engine puts out 250 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, and sends power to all four wheels as standard. He engine is mated to a 6-speed “Geartronic” automatic transmission.
As for the performance part, the vehicle is expected to accelerate 0-60 mph in under 7 seconds (estimated 6,6 sec) and reach a top speed of 155 mph.
Volvo’s all-wheel-drive system comes standard on U.S.-spec models. In Europe and other markets, the S60 Cross Country will also be delivered with front-wheel drive.
Price and release date
The 2016 Volvo S60 Cross Country should go on sale this summer at a starting price of $43,500.
