BMW has announced a new 5-series model that will be released in summer 2016 and will be known as the 2016 BMW 5-Series. The sixth in its generation, it will feature gasoline, diesel and hybrid engines, and will be available in sedan and wagon versions.
BMW 5-Series 2016 Exterior
The luxurious mid-size sedan will stretch 193.1 inches long, with a width of 73.2 inches and stand at a height of 57.6 inches. The vehicle flaunts an elegant front fascia characterized by headlights with rounded angles and an uncluttered bumper.
The 2016 BMW 5-Series has retained its twin-kidney grille. At the rear, you will find LED tail lights that make it instantly recognizable at night.
2016 BMW 5-Series Interior
The interior of the BMW 5-series 2016 will accommodate five passengers and still leave 14 cubic feet of trunk space. As is the custom, BMW interiors are known for their exceptional premium quality touches.
The dashboard will feature a color display for the latest BMW’s ConnectDrive infotainment system. This system will enable passengers to get real time traffic information, easy internet surfing, easy climate controls and many more functions. It also displays album covers and images from the rear view camera. All trims come with Bluetooth and Smartphone integration, sport steering wheel covered in leather, 12 volt power outlets and an integrated garage door opener.
There is talk of an interesting feature that enables the car to park itself which will be offered as standard. Other features which will be offered optionally include heated seats, ceramic controls, soft close automatic doors, night vision with pedestrian detection, soft-close automatic doors, a Bang & Olufsen sound system and a rear-seat entertainment system.
For safety, all models will feature electronic traction, a stability control system, active head restraint, a tire pressure monitoring system and dual front, front-side and full-length side curtain airbags.
Engine, Specs and Performance
Intentionally did not spend a lot of words in description of exteriors that can see in the pictures, we give special emphasis to engines, which are the main asset of every BMW. The 5-series is set to feature an array of engines which will include a three gasoline engines, a turbodiesel and a hybrid one.
The base trim (528i) will be hooked with a 2.0 L 4-cylinder powertrain that will produce 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine will be mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission system. It will have a fuel economy of 23mpg for city and 34 mpg on the highway.
The mid trim (535i) will have a turbocharged straight–six engine which will produce 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. It will deliver 21 mpg for city and 31 mpg on the highway and will move the car from 0-60 mph in a whopping 5.7 seconds. It will be hooked with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an optional 6-speed manual transmission which will lower fuel mileage to 19 and 29mpg for city and highway respectively.
If you think the above are powerful, well not compared to the 550i trim which will feature a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 engine fitted with BMW’s Valvetronic variable valve timing and lift system. This engine will be paired with either 8-speed automatic system or a 6-speed manual system. It produces a whopping 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque that sends it from 0-60mph in only 5 seconds. In terms of fuel economy, this engine will deliver 15 mpg for city and 22 mpg on highway with a manual transmission and 17 mpg and 25 mpg with an automatic unit.
The 535d model will be equipped with a 3.0 L diesel twin-turbocharged inline-six that produces 255 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. It is offered in RWD and is mated with a 8-speed automatic transmission. All trims will be equipped with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system on optional basis and at an extra cost.
There will also be a hybrid engine i.e. BMW’s ActiveHybrid engine which will produce 335 hp with a fuel economy of 23 mpg and 30 mpg for city and highway drives. It will have an acceleration of 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds.
Price and release date
The manufacture has already announced planned release of the new 2016 BMW 5-Series in the 2nd quarter of 2016. However the manufacturer will showcase the vehicle’s concept at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2016. The base model will go for around $50,000 while the top trim will set you back $ 150,000 which is worth it.
