The adjustments and updates made on the new 2016 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 are small, but some of them are considered to be significant, in the production should enter as the 2017 model year. All in all, no matter the performance and the features, the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 should be ready for dirt.
2016 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Exterior
GM has decided to help its customers in off-road by introducing plenty of cool upgrades. The 2016 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will be taller and wider and it will feature a completely new set of headlights with Xenon and LED coming as standard. The grille employs honeycomb mesh along with an aggressive new look.
Both bumpers have been trimmed to provide a better approach and bigger departure angles. For the sake of increase of ground clearance, the spare tires have been placed inside the bed. The vehicle is now equipped with 18” alloy wheels, and the suspension system has also been upgraded with the King shock absorbers offering a high ground clearance and a long travel.
2016 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Interior
As for the interior of the Colorado ZR2, not that much is known, but it’s expected that a lot of work will be done.
In terms of design, the cabin will mostly stay the same, except for the seats which will be reworked to provide better support for the back. The cabin of the base model will be equipped with all standard extras such as satellite navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control and leather upholstery.
Engine specs and performance
The 2016 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will be using one engine which will be quite unusual.
The base truck will get a few petrol engines, including the 3.6-liter V-6 with 308 hp and 275 pound-feet of torque, whereas the ZR2 will get a completely new 2.8-liter inline 4 Duramax turbo diesel unit which should produce 181 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque.
Being equipped with this kind of engine, the new Colorado ZR2 will be able to tow more than 5,000 lbs. However, the engine will get only standard 8-speed automatic gearbox which is standard for Colorado. Its only advantage is that it’s user-friendly.
What also comes as standard is the 4-wheel drive system, accompanied by the lockable differentials in both the front and the rear.

At the test drive, the new ZR2 developed acceleration of 0-60 mph in 10 sec, with the maximum speed of around 125 mph.
Price and release date
The vehicle is said to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2017 or near the mid of 2017, and the base price is expected to be around 30,000 US Dollars.
New Colorado ZR2 finally debuted at the 2016 Los Angeles auto show, the model will be officially called 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. Because of its off-road characteristics will be a major rival for the Toyota Tacoma and Tundra, as well as a much bigger Ford F-150 Raptor.
