The 2016 Chevrolet Volt is a good looking eco car which introduces a fully revised “Voltec” powertrain that starts with a smaller battery pack than the current generation.
Standing out from traditional alternative fuel vehicles with its natural sporty and sleek look, the 2016 Chevrolet Volt is as esthetically impressive as it’s smart.
The look has been toned, tamed and made less quirky at the customers’ request. It has the aluminum-made hood and hatch panels; the rear hatch is more traditional. The sculpted, aerodynamically designed LED headlights flow into the front fenders and taillights which provide perfect visibility. The base car comes with painted 17-inch wheels, whereas up-level models come with split-Y designed machined wheels with silver-covered insets.
Every inch of the interior was designed to improve and refine driving experience. The 2016 Chevrolet Volt comes with the new driver’s displays and ambient light cues. Ergonomically designed interior is more plain and roomier, and includes a heated steering wheel (optional) and heated rear and front seats. Instead of a bench seat, the Volt has the rear buckets which increase the passenger capacity by 1 to 5. The seats are covered in leather, colored in brandy and jet black.
The vehicle features the dual 8-inch LED color screens accompanied by a customizable instrument cluster and a center stack touch display with Chevrolet MyLink3 system and other apps. According to General Motors, the Volt’s infotainment system will be revealed at the New York Auto Show.
Wireless smartphone charging is another optional feature.
The cockpit is available in three color choices: jet black, ash gray, and jet black and brandy.
Engine and performance
The 2016 Chevrolet Volt Plug-In Hybrid uses a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter for producing 101 hp. Some of the advantages of this engine are direct injection, a variable-displacement oil pump and cooled exhaust-gas recirculation.
This Volt won’t mind sipping regular gas, despite running a high compression ratio.
The vehicle comes in four driving modes: Normal, Mountain – the battery and engine unite their power to traverse steep grades, Sport – with a much more aggressive accelerator and power-delivery characteristics and Hold – it forces the vehicle into extended-range operation for long-distance highway driving and to maintain battery charge. Only at electric drive new Volt may go about 50 miles, which is a huge improvement over the previous model.
Chevrolet corporation claims that the new Volt will be faster than the previous model, developing acceleration 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds.
Price and release date
The price hasn’t been announced yet, but from reliable sources, we found out that it should be from 29.990 to 35.000 US dollars, depending on the equipment and subsidies that give certain countries for environmentally friendly vehicles. The 2016 Chevrolet Volt will make its debut in the second half of this year.
