Though information is still scanty regarding the new 2016 Kia Sportage 2016, from what we have gathered, the new vehicle will adopt Kia’s new design which we have already seen on the recently launched Sedona minivan. We expect an upgraded power-train and reports are going around of a reportedly new Hybrid engine. Buyers will chose from four trims which will be the LX, EX, and SX.
Kia Sportage 2016 Exterior
The outside of this new 2016 Kia Sportage will be completely redesigned to feature a new, boxier look which is similar to the KX3 concept. At the front, there will be a new grille, long headlights, and a pair of rounded fog lights which make the car look wider and more aggressive. We also expect a new rear bumper, larger rear window and a hidden exhaust system. The model is still undergoing development though and we will inform you of the actual specs once we have them. The auto maker has utilized lightweight material on its body meaning it will have a reduced weight and an improved fuel economy.
2016 Kia Sportage Interior
Sliding into the interior of the new Kia Sportage 2016, you will find some quality gadgets and ample resting room. The new boxier shape will result in a 10% increase in its interior space translating to more passenger and cargo space. The base model will feature a Hyundai infotainment system including a 7-inch touch screen which will manage functions such as satellite navigation, automatic climate control and the digital radio for higher trim levels. Other standard features will include a six speaker audio system, USB, Bluetooth not forgetting a new steering wheel that comes with a lot of buttons.
Engine, Specs and Fuel economy
Drivers will have a choice between two engines. The first one will be a 2.4L DOHC four cylinder engine with 182 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 177 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine comes as standard in the LX and EX trims. For those motorists looking for efficiency, this is the engine to go for as it delivers 21 mpg for city and 28 mpg on the highway and 24 mpg combined for the FWD option. The AWD numbers are not as impressive at 19 mpg for city, 26 mpg for highway and 22 mpg combined. The second engine option which will feature under the SX trim hood will be a 2.0 L Turbocharged DOHC 4 cylinder engine. This is where real power is; the engine can achieve a whopping 260 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. For such a small SUV, that’s some real good power right there. Though it is less economic, the numbers are pretty impressive at 20 mpg, 26 mpg and 22 mpg for city, highway and combined respectively for the FWD option while the AWD averages 19-mpg city, 25-mpg highway, and 21-mpg combined.
Price and release date
The manufacturer is yet to release official information on the 2016 Kia Sportage date and price. However, we expect the car to be first showcased in the Frankfurt Auto show later in the year before hitting dealerships probably in the first quarter of 2016. The starting price of the 2016 Kia Sportage base model will be around $ 22,000 with higher trim levels attracting a higher price.
Competition for the new Kia Sorento 2016 is a large, arch rivals in this segment are: Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4
