Chevrolet Equinox is a very popular SUV in North America, It is in fact one of the best selling crossover SUVs in the US. Since the model’s second generation launch in 2010, it has sold over a million units in the US and Canada. The Equinox is also very impressive in European markets.
To maintain the good performance in the market, Chevy is planning to launch a new model of the Equinox for the 2017 model year. Most of the information about the upcoming Chevy is still being kept as a secret but from the little information we have received, we have managed to prepare the following;
2017 Chevrolet Equinox Exterior
The 2017 Chevrolet Equinox comes more elegant and stylish than its predecessor. The vehicle is offered in LS, L, LTZ and LT trims. At the front, Chevrolet designers have hooked up the vehicle with an aggressive look.
The front features a double-port grille with has a brighter look which add to its aggressiveness. Flanking the grille are frame-rate-explicit conventional light-beam projectors on the LS and L trims. The LT and LTZ trim levels will add LED DRLs. The front is also equipped with stylish fog lights.
Switching to the rear, the vehicle features double-elements tail lamps fitted on the lower frame. All models run on 17-inch alloy wheels except the LTZ trim which features 18-inch alloy wheels. Models equipped with the V-6 engine will feature twin chromed exhaust pipes.
2017 Chevrolet Equinox Interior
Chevy has also paid more attention on the cabin of the Equinox. The cabin has been redesigned to offer more interior space. As such, it offers more leg and head room. The automaker has added head restraints to the seats. The seats are upholstered in high quality leather which serves to take the comfort and luxury feeling of its cabin to a whole new level.
The dashboard is fitted with a 7-inch touch-screen integrated with MyLink infotainment system. Other features on the dashboard include; a navigation system, dual-zone air conditioning and cruise control. The vehicle also features 8-speaker Dolby sound system and connectivity features such as USB ports, Bluetooth and 4G LTE Wi-Fi.
For safety, the vehicle features bolstered seatbelts, enhanced airbags, stability and traction control, ABS and parking assistant to name just but a few.
Engine and performance
Under the hood, the Chevy Equinox will feature carried over drive-trains from the outgoing models. There will be two different engine options.
The base models will feature a 2.4 L, 4-cylinder mill that produces 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. In terms of fuel economy, this engine returns 22 mpg, 31 mpg and 18 mpg for city, highway and combined drives respectively. Surely Chevrolet should do more to increase these numbers.
Those looking for more “juice” can opt for the 3.6 L, V-6 which comes good with 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. This engine is only available on LT and LTZ trims featuring AWD. The V-6 also posts a poor fuel economy of 20 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined on models with FWD and 16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined on models with AWD systems. Details on its acceleration and top speed will be available close to its sales debut.
Price and release date
The starting price for the Equinox with the basic trim level L is $ 23.995, the LS has a starting MSRP $ 26.405, LT trim level has a starting MSRP $ 27.645 while the highest Premier trim level has a starting MSRP $ 30.935. The vehicle will hit dealer showrooms in the summer of 2016.
This segment is very competitive; the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox will face rivalry from Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, Ford Escape and Jeep Cherokee among others.
