2017 Dodge Viper GTC Interior
Unlike the Vipers of the old, the new model comes with a more attractive, and comfortable cabin. The new revisions start with the inclusion of a driver-centric cockpit layout to help drivers get the most out of the car. The model features a 7.0-inch customizable instrument cluster, which features an analog tachometer in the center. Drivers can opt for a digital speedometer readout slotted below the tachometer. Its center stack features Chrysler Group’s Uconnect Access infotainment system.
This is a very user-friendly system that integrates the car’s, audio, climate and navigation control functions in a single unit. Information on the climate, navigation and sound systems is displayed in an 8.4-inch touch-screen mounted on the dash. Buttons and knobs for audio volume tuning and climate control functions are also added. The Uconnect system also features voice commands that enable drivers to make calls, input navigation destinations, and usethe audio system without pulling his/her hands off the steering wheel.
The system also functions as a 3G network Wi-Fi hotspot.Other cabin surfaces feature additional padding, which is wrapped together by premium leather. The cluster bezel features triple-paint-finished Metal appliques, on the window switch bezels, HVAC outlets and park brake bezel, shifter base and passenger grab handle on the center console.
The seats are however not very comfortable despite looking purposeful and sleek. They also lack upper-body support and are not fit for long distances.
Engine and performance
The Viper derives its “venom” from a naturally aspirated, all-aluminum 8.4 L, V-10 that produces 645 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. All the venom is channeled to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The engine enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph in around 3.4 seconds. In its SRT form, the Viper has a top speed of 206 mph and 177 mph for the ACR version. As for the fuel economy, the model returns 13 mpg in city and 19 mpg on highway, which is actually very impressive for a 600 hp monster. The impressive economy is courtesy of various weight reduction measures taken by the automaker, which have seen the engine shed 25 lbs and 100 lbs for the whole model.
