2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider

2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider

NiceCarsInfo Team July 12, 2016

When it made its maiden debut at the 2013 at the Geneva Auto show, the LaFerrari Coupe was the first Ferrari to use a hybrid drive-train. Despite the model costing almost $2 million, all 499 units sold out in a matter of months. The automaker now is set to follow up the Coupe with a Convertible version dubbed the 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider Aperta. Although Ferrari has not said how many models will be built, the automaker revealed that all models have already sold out. The Spider was offered to a select few individuals.

Ferrari has already released photos of the model and as you would expect, it looks sharp and elegant just like the coupe…I think the Spider is way more stylish than the Coupe. The Spider will be showcased at the Paris Auto show in October before deliveries to customers commence in 2017. Read along to find out more:

2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider Exterior

Below the waistline, the Spider looks identical to the coupe with all the unique lines and curves that made the LaFerrari Coupe a huge hit among supercar enthusiasts. The drop-top roof is actually the only feature that differentiates the Spider from the Coupe. The new roof is a removable panel made from carbon-fiber.

The Spider looks somewhat sleeker with the panel removed. Subtle visual upgrades include revised rear windows and engine hood at the rear. Otherwise, everything else is identical to the LaFerari Coupe.

2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider Interior

Inside, the LaFerrari spider is also identical to the Coupe. The cabin combines race-inspired features with unique Ferrari luxury. The steering wheel is a flat top and bottomed unit which slots in front of the model’s 3-piece instrument cluster.

The instrument cluster is customizable to individual driver’s preferences. The center console is identical to that of the Coupe. Interior surfaces are wrapped either with soft Italian leather or with Alcantara. Buyers will love the two-tone finish on the door panels, seats and on the dash.

Surfaces not covered in leather or Alcanatara feature carbon-fiber including on the center console, door panels, and steering wheel and on the floor. The automaker also revealed that carbon fiber is used on the seats as a weight reduction measure.

The good thing about the Spider is that the driver now enjoys all the headroom in the world enabling him/her to appreciate the awesome growl from the monstrous V-12 mill.

Engine Specs and performance

Just like its coupe sister, the LaFerrari Spider is powered by a hybrid drive-train. The system combines a 6.3 L, V-12 which produces 789 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The engine combines with HY-KERN motor which adds 161 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Both combine to produce 950 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.

The drop-top will take around 2.7 seconds to reach 60 mph from standstill which is a little slower than the coupe. This is because the cabriolet features altered aerodynamics to accommodate the convertible rooftop. The model will have a top speed of 210 mph just like the coupe. At this speed, the Spider is the fastest street-legal cabriolet in the world.

In terms of fuel consumption, the cabriolet has the same rating as the coupe. It is EPA rated at 12 mpg in city, 16 mpg on highway and 14 mpg on combined drives. The automaker has not revealed its all-electric driving range.

Price and release date

The LaFerrari Spider will be produced in limited units. However, Ferrari has not revealed the exact number of units that will be produced. At first, rumor had it that only 50 units would be produced, recent rumors however suggest 70 units.

Most likely, less than 100 units will be produced.  As such, the model will be much rarer than the coupe.  Ferrari has not revealed the model’s price but the cabriolet will be more expensive than the coupe. According to rumors, a price of around $3.4 million is likely.

The 2017 LaFerrari Spider will make a public debut at the Paris Auto Show in October.
