First there were rumors about the Q50 sedan being discontinued. As if to put to shame the rumor mongers, Nissan through its Infiniti’s luxury department is set to unveil a revamped model that looks and feels better, not to mention its improved fuel efficiency.
The sedan joins its sister the Q60 coupe and cabriolet which will also get a refresh for the 2017 model year. The vehicle will come with a slightly higher price but according to what we have seen, it will be worth every penny.
2017 Infiniti Q50 Exterior
The 2017 Infiniti Q50 will be based on the Essence Platform. The vehicle will receive a host of exterior changes but most of them will be minor and only aesthetic. Most certainly, the Crescent-cut C-pillar which has become a kind of unique will feature. Also, the outgoing vehicle’s 3-dimensional dual-arch grille will also make its way to the new model.
However, the grille will be redesigned and will feature a chromed surround which makes the front fascia look more attractive. The front will also feature a new bumper and updated high beam LED headlights with automatic on/off feature. The vehicle will also feature LED daytime running lights and LED fog lights. Sliding lower, you will find a zero lift bonnet with an excellent airflow management which translates to a lower coefficient of drag.
Other features include UV reducing glass windows with chrome surrounds, body colored door handles and side mirrors. The side mirrors are integrated with turn signals and are heated and power operated. A the back, the vehicle will feature a new bumper and redesigned LED taillights, dual chrome exhaust tips and a rear window defroster integrated with indicator light.
2017 Infiniti Q50 Interior
Nissan seems to have mastered the art of interior design as reflected in the new Q50’s cabin. The automaker will offer four levels of equipment meaning the Q50 will be offered in four trim levels which are the Base, Sport, Premium and the Hybrid.
Though details about the cabin are still scanty, rumor has it that the cabin will feature an environment-themed interior that comes with flowing shapes that generate an intimate feeling while creating individual space for the driver and passengers. Leather is the standard upholstery on the seats. Front seats are heated and are power adjustable and will also feature armrests and storage compartments. All seats will have carpeted floor mats.
The cabin will feature a black polish and touches of aluminum as well as leather on some surfaces such as the dashboard and the doors. Buyers looking for more can add a mix of color and texture combinations stimulated by the four seasons. One has an option to customize the interior according to their tastes and preferences. The interior will also feature the Infiniti intelligent key that enables one touch ignition, power door locks with an automatic locking feature, rear floor heater ducts, a dual-zone automatic air conditioning system and a front visor which features an illuminated vanity mirror.
Expect the most up-to-date technological features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi , a premium infotainment system with a large touch-screen and a quality sound system to make their way to the cabin as well.
There are no official details regarding the Q50’s engine specs. However, according to rumors, the vehicle will feature 3 drive-trains i.e. a petrol engine, a diesel unit and a hybrid drive-train.
The petrol engine being fronted is a 3.7 L, V6 engine which is capable of producing 328 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque.
The diesel engine is a turbocharged 2.2 L unit capable of producing 208 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.
Last but not the least is the hybrid drive-train. It will combine a 3.5 L, V6 engine with an electric motor to produce 360 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. All the engines will be paired to a 7-speed automatic system but there is an option for a 6-speed manual transmission.
Price and release date
Infiniti is still keeping details of the 2017 Infiniti Q50 close to its chest but according to rumors, the sedan will arrive in dealership in the second half of 2016. The base model will go for around MSRP $38,000 with higher trims attracting higher price tags.
The hybrid model will be the most expensive adding around $ 10,000 to the price of the base model.
