2017 Porsche 960 Concept

NiceCarsInfo Team April 28, 2016

In a bid to increase its presence in the super fast and luxury market segment, Porsche is set to release a new model. The 2017 Porsche 960 is still undergoing development and is set to come with many upgraded technologies, interior features and a modern exterior design. We understand that production of the model will commence in 2017 so we hope for an early debut in late 2017. Details are still scarce about the model but we have managed to gather the following about it.

2017 Porsche 960 Concept Exterior

Details about the model’s exterior are still scarce. However, rumor has it that the 2-door cabriolet will be very elegant with a very aerodynamic body. The model will also feature a hard top roof. The roof is so designed that when it is up it will be hard to tell if the model is a convertible. When the roof is up, the car will look as a fully-fledged coupe.

The 2017 Porsche 960 concept will be based on Porsche’s Modular Sport Architecture. This new platform is customized to work with mid-engine and back-engine placements. In addition, the platform utilizes magnesium, high-strength steel, aluminum, titanium and carbon-fiber on the vehicle’s structure which helps achieve a reduced curb weight of less than 3,000 lbs. Check back later for more information on its exterior styling.

Inside, you can expect the model to be very elegant. The cabin will be upholstered in the most quality materials such as premium leather, wood and carbon-fiber. In addition, expect the model to come with the latest technologies in the industry. It will feature an active steering wheel for an enhanced driving experience.

The car will accommodate just two passengers. Expect the vehicle to come with an advanced infotainments system that will enable Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system will also feature Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. For entertainment, expect the model to come with a state-of-the-art sound system. The vehicle will also feature an advanced navigation system and an automatic climate control system to keep things cool in all types of weather when the roof is closed.

Safety is a department Porsche designers take seriously. We understand that the model will be equipped with a good deal of safety features such as traction and stability control, car emergency braking system,  enhanced curtain airbags, knee side airbags, head location airbags, intelligent speed assist, a blind-spot monitoring system, lane change assist, active cruise control, a tire pressure monitoring system and a rearview camera among others.

Engine Specs and Performance

At first, there were rumors that the Porsche 960 would be powered by a V-6 engine capable of producing over 600 horses. However, the latest rumors seem to discredit that engine in favor of an 8-cylinder engine to move closer to the likes of Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.

The engine put forward to achieve this is a 3.9 L, 8-cylinder engine which will feature 4 turbochargers.  The engine will also feature 4 adjustable camshafts, 2 intercoolers, a dual-stage exhaust system and a multi-stage intake manifold. These enhancements will help the engine pump out 650 hp. This mill will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission system that will channel power to a 4-wheel drive system.  The power-train will see the 960 sprint from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds. It will have a top speed of 200 mph.

According to rumors, there will be a second, less potent engine. It will also be a V-8 with a displacement of 4.6 liters. This engine will be adopted from the Porsche 911. The engine is capable of producing 570 hp. Similarly, the engine will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission system.

Price and release date

The actual on-sale date of the 2017 Porsche 960 is not known but according to rumors, the model will be released in the second half of 2017. Porsche has not announced official prices also. However, the base model is expected to cost over $ 200,000. According to reports, Porsche plans to sell around 4000 units of the Porsche 960 in six years.

We will keep updating you on all the latest developments on the Porsche 960 Concept.

Competition

Though Porsche wants to compete with the likes of Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari F12 Berlinetta in future, the current model is not capable of rivaling the above models. The 960 is, however, a strong rival of the likes of Audi R8, Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 458 Italia and the McLaren 12C.
