There is some good news from Volvo. We have received spy shots of the anticipated 2017 Volvo S90 which is in the final development stages. According to rumors, the S90 will replace the S80 and will adopt Volvo’s new design language.
The next generation of Volvo S90 is an improvement from the S80 though it will borrow some styling cues from the retiring automobile. The automaker aim is to increase its competitiveness against more established sedans like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and the BMW 5 Series.
2017 Volvo S90 Exterior
From the spy shots we have received, the S90 borrows much of its exterior styling from the XC90 SUV and Concept Coupe. The S90 will come in four doors. The front fascia of the S90 is more stylish and sportier compared to the S80.
The front fascia of the sedan includes a vertical-slat grille, its headlights resemble the ‘Thor’s hammer while day time running lights are T-shaped. Just below the grille is a sporty bumper which is hooked with three-part intake.
The sides of each intake will feature chrome strips. At each end, the car spots slim fog lamps to improve visibility when driving along badly illuminated areas. Its engine hood spots a muscular look just like the one on the XC90. At the rear end, the model has adopted the Concept Coupe’s styling which features C-shaped taillights. The rear bumper is less aggressive and is integrated with big exhaust pipes.
The vehicle also features slim pillars and a slanting roof line that give the car a Coupe appearance. The auto maker is yet to release official dimensions of the vehicle, make sure to come back for more information on such specs. The 2017 Volvo S90 will ride in either 20-inch or 22-ich R-Design wheels.
2017 Volvo S90 Interior
Changing gears to the inside of the 2017 Volvo S90, motorists will be welcomed by a modern looking stylish exterior. The car will comfortably accommodate five passengers who will find plenty of leg room between the seats. The seats are covered with Nappa leather and they are ventilated and adjustable.
The center console will be hooked up with a 12-inch touch screen that will control the vehicles infotainment system, air conditioning and satellite navigation as well as other features of the vehicle.
The new 2017 Volvo S90 will also feature Park Assist Pilot, and Cross Traffic Alert which detects a car approaching 90 feet away from either side. We believe more features will be installed as it is still early days before the vehicle hits the market.
Engine, Specs and Performance
According to rumors, the S90 and XC90 will be built based on the automakers new Scalable Platform architecture. Under the hood of the new sedan there will be a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that is both turbocharged and supercharged. This will enable the engine to produce 316 hp and 295 lb-f of torque. It will be mated with a 8-speed automatic transmission system. Power will be transmitted to all wheels. The redesigned Volvo S90 with this engine will accelerate from 0-60 mph in about 6 seconds, while top speed is 155 mph.
There will be a Volvo S90 with D4 diesel engine, which will have about 190 hp.
Our sources further reveal that future S90 models will have a hybrid engine which will be a 2.0 L petrol engine paired with a 60 hp electric motor. This combination will produce 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque.
