2018 Jaguar F-Type

NiceCarsInfo Team January 31, 2017

Yet again, Jaguar is set to release a new 2018 Jaguar F-Type with minimal changes. Although the model has been in the market with the current shape for far too long, the automaker designers have preferred to continue with the brand without major exterior design changes. The automaker has however made more significant changes to the model’s interior cabin styling as well as upgraded the model’s engines with more power. Read along for more information:

2018 Jaguar F-Type Exterior

When a thing is good, you keep it the way it is with minimal changes as drastic changes can ultimately spoil an already good thing. Jaguar knows too well that they have a good thing in the F-Type exterior design. As such, for the 2018 model year, the automaker has decided to maintain the F-Type’s look with minimal changes.

In fact, the new model has only received slightly revised bumper and full LED headlights that help freshen up the model’s stylish look. The new headlights feature an adaptive function that enables them to change depending on the different situations and locations, which are grouped into four modes, which are Country, City, Motorway as well as Bad Weather. The automaker has also added smaller, round-shaped air intakes on the model’s stylish, mouth-like grille.

The Jaguar is in the same class as the Maserati Gran Turismo, a model that has managed to keep its cool for many changes without undergoing any major visual changes.

2018 Jaguar F-Type Interior

Unlike the exterior, the interior has received a host of changes. The most notable inclusion is the Touch Pro infotainment system that will be offered as standard across all trims. This system will offer a high-resolution display, real-time traffic information updates, faster responses among others.

The automaker also features a new app dubbed the “ReRun” which is developed jointly with GoPro. The system provides a video camera with performance data real-time such as throttle position, speed, braking force, gear selection as well as g-force.

Passengers will also love the model’s new slimline seats, which according to the automaker help the model drop 17 pounds from its curb weight. The cabin has a new chrome and aluminum trim as well as new interior color schemes such as Sierra Tan leather.

The automaker has also added a number of semi-automated features such as a park assist system.

Engine Specs and performance

For the 2018 model year, Jaguar has bumped the power output to all models in the lineup. The base F-Type and F-Type R-Dynamic will be powered by a 3.0L, V-6 mill that cranks out 340 hp and 380 hp respectively.

Moving up, the F-Type 400 Sport uses a tweaked version of the V-6 mill that produces 400 horses. The automaker has confirmed that the Sport will be a limited edition model available for one year only. Those looking for more power will get it from the supercharged 5.0 L, V-8 that produces 550 hp on the F-Type R and 575 hp on the F-Type SVR.

All F-Type models will be available in coupe and convertible bodies. They will be offered with RWD or AWD. Power will be channeled to the wheels through an 8-speed automatic gearbox or a 6-speed manual gearbox, except for the F-Type 400 Sport that will use only the 8-speed automatic transmission.

Price and release date

Due to the new interior changes and upgrade of the mills, I expect the new Jaguar F-Type to attract a higher price tag compared to the current model.  The automaker is, however, keeping information about the 2018 Jaguar F-Type price and release date close to its chest. More information will be available when the model nears its release date, believed to be sometimes in late 2017 or early 2018. Be sure to come back for more updates.
