The next-gen 2019 Audi S7 has been undergoing testing for quite a while now. We have in our possession the latest spy shots of the 4-door Sportback. The model’s new look seems to be inspired by the Prologue Avant Concept. The prototype we captured testing is however still covered in heavy camouflage and there is little to see as of now.
2019 Audi S7 Exterior
From the spy shots we have in our possession, it is not clear whether the exterior of the 2019 Audi S7 has undergone any changes as the model is heavily wrapped in camouflage. However, the extent of the camouflage means the automaker is definitely hiding something. From the spy shots, the prototype resembles the Prologue Avant Concept characterized by an extended hexagonal grille and small air vents on the edges. The hood on the prototype also looks smooth, which is not usual for the S7 which is perhaps an indication that the model will adopt sharp body lines.
The rear looks largely unchanged but it sports new taillights. The rear still features 4 exhaust tips which enhance its sportiness.
Make sure to get back later for a more exclusive coverage of the 2019 Audi S7 when we get more information.
The general layout of the cabin won’t change. However, various features will be upgraded. The current model’s cabin is impressive with its wraparound effect. The 2019 model will come with a large screen, probably larger than the one on the current model. The A/C vents may get slight modifications.
I expect the automaker to eliminate a few buttons from the center console to make it look cleaner. As is the current norm with luxury cars, expect the S7 to also get a carbon-fiber insert for the door panels, dashboard and for the console. On the other hand, its pedals may get a light aluminum polish and black inserts. A digital instrument cluster is also likely. Front seats will likely get extra bolstering and enhanced side support.
Overall, the cabin will likely feature a two-tone design with an array of new tones.
Engine and performance
Audi has not disclosed the engine that will power the 2019 S7. But considering the engine on the current model does the job just about right, I expect the automaker to retain it but with some upgrades. The mill is a 4.0 L, V-8 that is good for 450 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. The power enables the model to achieve 0-60 mph acceleration in only 4.5 seconds. The car has an electronically limited maximum speed of 155 mph.
Most likely, Audi may increase its power slightly making the model complete the 0-60 mph dash in less than 4.5 seconds. Like the outgoing model, the 2019 Audi S7 will feature the automaker’s Quattro AWD system backed by the S Tronic 7-speed dual clutch transmission.
The S7 will also feature an adaptive air suspension system that will help prevent body roll during sharp maneuvers as well as enhance control of the car.
Price and release date
The model is still far away from even making an official debut so there are no prices to talk about at this time. The 2019 S7 will likely be released in the second half of 2018. As for the price, the 2019 model will cost slightly more than the current versions that have a starting price of $79,900. A starting price of over $80,000 is likely for the base model and around $85,000 for the range-topping Eminence trim.
The Audi S7 competes with the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and the Mercedes CLS Coupe.
